During more than thirty years of multi-disciplinary rural development experience in all continents, Dr. John Dixon has worked on a wide variety of sustainable agriculture challenges including the MDGs, agricultural and rural development policy and strategy formulation, ex ante impact assessment and priority setting, agricultural research management, agricultural innovation systems, good agricultural practices, sustainable agriculture and rural development, household survey and agricultural data systems, farming systems, participatory research and development methods, capacity building and knowledge management.

He holds four degrees -- Bachelor of Rural Science (on agricultural systems), Master of Economics (on agricultural economics and business management), Master of Natural Resources (on resource management and water quality) and Ph D (on the economics of sustainable agriculture) – from the University of New England, Armidale, Australia. He has written more than ten books and more than one hundred journal articles, conference papers and reports.

He is presently the Director, Impacts, Targeting and Assessment, International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Mexico.
